Air Curtains

Air Control & Development Ltd are a nationwide installation company providing air curtains throughout the UK, helping to maintain a comfortable and clean indoor environment.

What Are Air Curtains?

Air curtains essentially fans installed at the entrance of a building from the outside  such as shop, office, school, or restaurant, producing a controlled stream of air create a barrier preventing internal and external air from mixing. This helps keep conditioned air inside your building while preventing unwanted contaminants, dust, and odours from coming in from outside.

Types Of Air Curtain

There are two main types of air curtains recessed (built into the ceiling) or surface mounted.
These are then spilt into four sub types each suited to a specific use.

Please Contact Us Today For Advice On The Right Type For Your Premises:

  1. Electric air curtains:The most common type of commercially used air curtains. These devices use an electric heater to warm the air that is blown across the open doorway. Electric air curtains are useful for shops and business premises that need to keep their main door open during the winter.

  2. Ambient air curtains: Ambient air curtains do not heat the air directly, but simply circulate the existing indoor air across the doorway. These are ideal for environments where temperature control is not a major concern, but there is still a need to keep out dust, insects, and airborne contaminants.

  3. Water-heated air curtains:These air curtains use hot water to heat the air across the doorway. This heated water is typically supplied by the building’s existing central heating system or heat recovery system.

  4. Heat pump air curtains:Based on the same principals as air source air conditioning, heat is provided through reverse cycle refrigerant circuit. These air curtains can improve energy efficiency and reduce costs by making use of otherwise wasted heat from the atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why fit an air curtain on my premises?

An air curtain will separate two environments, e.g. the street outside from your business premises, and provide an invisible barrier that keeps air-conditioned air within the desired space. This helps you maintain a pleasant environment for your staff and customers at all times of the year, including during hot weather and polluted/low-quality atmospheric conditions.

Are there different types of air curtains available?

Yes, our air curtains come in electric, ambient, water, and heat recovery-type systems. The main details of each of these types are summarised above, but please contact us to discuss your individual requirements and we will be happy to recommend the best type for you.
